New York, NY Tenement Fire, Nov 1918

Two Children Dead In Fire.

A few minutes after Mrs. Kate Ahlers left her two grandchildren, Thomas, 5 years old, and Henry, 4, alone on the top floor of a tenement house at 49 Ludlow Street while she went out to buy food neighbors saw flames coming from the windows, and two of them were overcome by smoke while they were trying to reach the children. Members of Hook and Ladder Company 17 found the little ones dead on the bed. Firemen were unable to find the cause of the fire.
