BLAST KILLS AUTO RACER.

Haverstraw, N. Y., Aug. 6 (AP) -- LOUIS HOYT, 58, described as a former holder of dirt track automobile racing records, was killed today in a terrific explosion which authorities feared might have been caused by a bomb.
The blast occurred in a garage operated by HOYT on New Main street. Several hours later, HOYT'S body was recovered from the ruins of the building.
Employees of HOYT told officials they knew nothing in the garage which might have been responsible for the explosion, and Detective HARRY ZORN, of the district attorney's office, theorized someone had tossed a bomb at the garage.
He said he had learned that shortly before the blast an automobile bearing New Jersey license plates had halted before the garage and speeded away following the explosion.
Persons three blocks away from the scene were knocked down by the force of the blast, others were thrown from their beds and windows along Main street were shattered.
Fire fighting apparatus from eight nearby towns succeeded in checking the flames which followed the explosion.
