LARGE FIRE AT EARLVILLE.

Syracuse, N.Y., July 24. -- The village of Earlville, Madison County, was the scene of a fierce fire this morning. At 3 o'clock flames were seen issuing from the rear of the Opera House Block, occupied on the ground floor by J. ESTES, furniture dealer and undertaker, and C. A. THORP, jeweler. The flames then spread to the adjoining property of N. L. DOUGLASS, druggist; G. A. CLARK, hardware; CUSHMAN & BRAINERD, general store; JEB REYNOLDS, meat market, and the dwellings of MRS. MORRIS and J. COOGAN. At this point the flames jumped across the street and destroyed AYERS & BURDICK'S block, occupied as a barber's shop and a saloon; F. CASTIS, saloon; E. C. DART'S law office, and C. WHITE'S residence. Many families who resided over the stores were furned out. The loss is estimated at $55,000 and the insurance about $25,000. The fire caught in the rear of the Opera House Block. The buildings destroyed were all wood, erected on the site of the fire which devastated the village in 1886.
