50 miles west of El Paso, TX (in NM) train wreck, Dec 1913

NINETEEN INJURED IN TRAIN WRECK

EL PASO, Dec. 26. - Nineteen persons were injured, four seriously, in the wreck of the Texas & Pacific passenger train No. 3 westbound fifty miles west of here Saturday. Two of the seriously injured are white. Doctors and numrses went from here on a relief train and the injured were brought back to this city Saturday afternoon.

The coaches tumbled over in a heap. Fire broke out in the wreckage but only a few of those beneath the pile were slightly burned.

The diner, combination coach, chair car and one standard sleeper were derailed when the train hit a broken rail which caused the accident. The locomotive and tender and baggage car passed over this broken rail without trouble.

The military surgeon at Fort Hancock was the first to reach the wreck. He administered first aid to all who needed it before the relief train arrived.
