Lordsburg, NM Train Wreck, May 1907

RUNAWAY CARS CAUSE A WRECK

El Paso, Tex., May 13. – Running fifty miles an hour four miles this side of Lordsburg, N. M., Southern Pacific passenger train No 7, westbound, collided with a string of twelve runaway freight cars and was wrecked. The engine was thrown from the track and tumbled over and the express car was thrown across the track. Engineer NEAL B. McGINNIS of this place was caught under the tender and crushed death. Fireman Pat Sullivan is still living, but is scalded so badly that he cannot survive. Only one passenger, Mrs. McCaskill, was slightly injured.
