Cuba, NM Bus And Truck Collide, Feb 1951
FIVE KILLED IN BUS-TRUCK CRASH.
Cuba, N.M., Feb. 19 (AP) -- A gasoline transport trailer ripped through the side of a bus in a snow storm today and killed five persons.
None in the bus escaped injury.
Dead are:
PINKNEY WILLIAMSON COBB, Bayfield, Colo.
DR. LOUISE ODAFFER, Cuba, osteopath.
RALPH ROOD, 26, Durango, Colo., bus driver.
MRS. NANCY CAROL DOYLE and her baby, 1 1/2 year old KERMIT, Texas, and Farmington.
MRS. MARY STOCK of Bountiful, Utah, had a scalp and head injury. Two other passengers, both New Mexicans, received cuts and bruises.
GORDON JONAS, 19, of Shiprock, escaped because he was asleep in the rear seat. The tanker sheared through the bus a few inches above his head.
The accident happened as the transport and the bus crossed a narrow bridge at the foot of a hill 1 1/2 miles northwest of Cuba on state road 44.
The bus was the Durango-bound bus of Cannon Ball trailways. The truck was owned by the Groundline Truck Co. of Amarillo, and driven by E. E. "GENE" JOHNSON, 22, of Amarillo.
