Freehold, NJ Building Explosion, Nov 1919

PERISHES IN FLAMES.

Freehold, N. J., Man Victim of Fire Caused by Explosion.

FREEHOLD, N. J., Nov. 27.---Albert Seewig, an ex-steward of a German liner interned in Hoboken during the war, who had established an antique business here, was burned to death in his shop this afternoon after an explosion.

Seewig and Richard Hornikel, an employe[sic], were at work on the second floor of the building, 44 South Street, when the explosion occurred. Hornickel leaped through a window to the roof of another building and reached the street. Seewig became confused and ran to the third floor.

Persons attracted by the explosion saw him at a window with flames all about him. He was seen to fall backward and firemen found him burned to death.

He recently took out and accident policy for $10,000, calling for double indemnity if death occurred in a burning building. So far the authorities have discovered no relatives in this country. The origin of the explosion is not known. Flames caused a loss of $10,000 to the building and its contents.
