Keyport, NJ Five Building Fire, Nov 1889


A SERIOUS FIRE AT KEYPORT, N. J., Nov. 29. -- At 5 o'clock a. m. fire was discovered in the bakery of ALONZO YONKER, on Front Street. A high wind prevailed and the flames spread quickly. Five buildings belonging to E. B. STOUT and MRS. WILLIAM CONOVER were burned. Loss $75,000, fully insured.
The bakers employed by YONKERS and the members of his family were asleep when the fire occurred and were aroused with difficulty. All except one baker named JACOB PYSER, who was burned to death. The fire departments of Red Bank, Mattewan and Freehold, assisted the local fire department in fighting the fire.
