Gasoline Barge Blows Up; Mate, Captain Missing
Blast Shakes New Jersey Town, Perils Shipping and Oil Terminals

Paulsboro, N. J., Dec. 24.—Two men were reported missing today in the wake of an explosion and fire that ripped through a barge loaded with 25,000 gallons of gasoline while the craft was being moored to a wharf here.
The missing men are William Leary, 40 years old, Philadelphia, captain of the barge, and Eduard Leary, 36, the mate, of Norfolk, Va.
The barge, owned by the International Oil Transportation Company of Philadelphia, arrived here this morning from Bayonne. As it was being moored, one of the gas tanks aboard exploded. Flames immediately broke out over the craft. The burning barge began drifting up Mantua creek, across which steel cables were stretched to prevent it floating into the oil terminals here.
Force of the blast shook the entire town.
