Jackson Township, NJ Roller Coaster Accident, June 1987

Jackson Township, N.J. -- Investigators say they don't yet know how a 19-year-old woman fell to her death from the Lightnin' Loops roller coaster at Great Adventure amusement park.
KAREN ANNE MARIE BROWN of Chester, Pa., was dead on arrival yesterday at Freehold Area Hospital, where she was taken by a park first aid team after the accident, said Sharron Adcock, a township police dispatcher.
Investigators were interviewing witnesses to determine whether the victim was strapped in, how the accident happened and where she fell along the ride's route, said Michael Murray of the Monmouth County prosecutor's office.
"We have no reason to believe that the death was anything but accidental at this time," he said.
Park spokeswoman Donna O'Sullivan said the ride would not move unless the passengers are strapped in.
She said riders' harnesses also are checked by attendants.
