Wreck at Haverhill Station NH

FOUR TRAINMEN KILLED IN WRECK.

MISTAKE IN ORDERS BRINGS HEAD-ON COLLISION AT WOODSVILLE ON BOSTON & MAINE LINE -- ANOTHER INJURED.

Woodsville, N.H., March 20. -- Three or four trainmen were injured and many freight cars demolished, in a head-on collision between two freight trains on the White Mountains division of the Boston & Maine road, a mile and a half south of Haverhill station, today. The extent of the injuries of the victims is not yet known for the wires were carried down by the cars.
It was later learned the four trainmen were killed. ELMER E. GROSS, of Concord, and GUY DOW, of Woodsville, engineers; and FRED A. BROWN, of Concord and ALLAN T. DAVIS, of Woodsville, firemen. WILFRED NOONAN of Woodsville, a brakeman, was seriously injured. It is alleged some mistake in the dispatch or receipt of train orders was responsible for the wreck. The trains met on a curve and neither engine crew had time to jump. The tracks will be blocked all day.
