Nashua, NH Central Block Fire, Apr 1931
Fire Sweeps Nashua Block.
NASHUA, N. H., April 22. (AP).---Fire swept through the Central block at Main and Hollis streets early today, causing damage estimated at $35,000. It was Nashua's third threatening fire in 10 days and police and fire department officials are investigating the origin of all three.
The rear of the one-story brick structure was a mass of flames when the alarm was first sounded. Investigators said the fire appeared to have started either in quarters of the Theriault Press or the Central bowling alleys in the basement. The Theriault Press lost equipment, supplies and machinery valued at about $20,000.
Other business places damaged were the bowling alleys the Rosebud fruit store, the Central Barber shop and the Central shoe repair store.
