Concord, NH Railroad Fire, Jul 1867

Destructive Fire at Concord, N. H.

CONCORD, N. H., Friday, July 19. A fire occurred here this morning which destroyed property belonging to the Northern Railroad to the amount of $250,000. The fire was first discovered in a wood-shed near the round-house, which contained nine or ten engines, only two of which were removed.

The flames communicated to the adjoining machine shop, about two-fifths of which was consumed. At this point it was checked by a brick and iron wall. On the other side it swept through the long wood-sheds and communicated to the new bridge across the railroad track and to another wood-shed filled with wood, all of which were totally consumed. The insurance on the property was about $125,000, taken by ten different companies.

Telegraphic communication to the north of here was interrupted by the destruction of four [illigible].
