Portsmouth, NH Buzz Saw Accident, May 1898

A Close Shave

Mr. Joseph Marden had a narrow escape from being mangled in the gear of a hand power buzz saw at his joiner shop on Market street this morning.

With some workmen he was engaged in sawing a board when his coat got caught in the cog wheel and was slowly but surely drawing him towards the saw. With a mighty effort he wrenched himself free and escaped without a scratch but his coat was torn to threads. It was a narrow squeeze and a little more and he would probably have been quite badly hurt.
