Portsmouth, NH Jones Wharf Drowning Rescue, Jun 1898

Fell Into the River

A young five year old lad while playing around Jones' wharf Tuesday afternoon fell overboard and but for the prompt action of photographer E. C. Nickerson, would probably have been drowned. Mr. Nickerson saw the youngster fall over and rushed to the spot. After great exertion he managed to grasp the youngster's hand and hauled him out onto the wharf more dead than alive.
