CHILD DROWNED
The Little Daughter of Charlee Williams Drowned in the Orr Ditch Last Evening
Annie Beatrice, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams was drowned in the Orr ditch in the vicinity of J. N. Evans' residence shortly after 7 o'clock last evening.
The little girl left her home on Washington street with W. K. Ball, who was going to milk a cow kept in a pasture near the General Hospital, at 6:30. In the route taken it is necessary to cross the Orr ditch by means of a plan two by six inches. The little girl was following along behind Mr. Ball and it is supposed she fell on the plank.
When Mr. Ball looked around to see if she was still following she was not to be seen and becoming alarmed he went back to look for her, but could not find any trace of her as the water is swift.
The parents were informed and a search begun, but without avail.
Shortly after 7 o'clock Ben Evans went to the ditch near his father's home, when to his horror he saw the lifeless body floating down stream. He secured the body and the parents were notified.
The "Gazette" extends it's deepest sympathies to the afflicted parents who are prostrated with grief. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock from Trinity Church.
