Edison, NE Train Repair Crew Wreck, Jun 1895

McCOOK, Neb., June 4.----While searching for washouts between Edison and Oxford the engineer of the repair train plunged into a washout about two miles east of Edison, and of the five men on the engine four were killed. The dead are:

B. V. NALLY, roadmaster; FRANK JEFFRIES, engineer; C. M. ROWELL, fireman; SAMMUEL MUNDY, conductor. This is the most disastrous accident to life that has ever occurred on this division, and is one of the results of the breaking of Curtis lake dam.

THREE TRAINMEN ARE KILLED.

Accident to a Burlington Repair Train Causes Death.

EDISON, Neb., June 3.----Three men, comprising a repairing crew from McCook, were killed three miles from here. They were the engineer, fireman and brakeman. The track of the road had been undermined by heavy rains and the engine of the repair train plunged into a gully without warning. The dead are named JEFFRIES, ROWELL and LANDY. The full extent of the disaster cannot be learned.

The train was manned by a pile-driver crew, consisting of about 12 men, and had been sent out to repair the track. Besides the three men killed another was reported to have been injured but how seriously is not known. A wrecking train was sent out from McCook, but has not reported yet.
