Beatrice, NE Motor Car Accident, Apr 1911

HIS NEW CAR KILLED HIM.

An Omaha Laundryman Dead and Three Injured When a Motor Turned Turtle.

BEATRICE, NEB., April 12.---F. J. KIMBALL was killed, E. P. Mumford and Walter Myers were severely injured, and A. M. Lavalle was slightly injured two miles and a half south of this city at 4 o'clock this afternoon when a motor car in which the party was riding turned turtle. The party left Beatrice at 1 o'clock this afternoon and started on the return trip home about 3:30 o'clock. After the machine left a small culvert it ran zigzag, plunged into an embankment along the side of the road and turned over twice. Mr. Kimball was driving the car and was killed outright. The other three men were buried under the wreckage and were removed and brought to Beatrice as soon as possible. The condition of Myers and Mumford is critical. the supposition is that Kimball lost control of the car soon after it crossed the culvert, causing it to turn over. Several farmers in the vicinity of where the accident occurred state that the car was running about sixty miles an hour.

Mr. Kimball bought the machine, a Stearns, in Omaha last Saturday. He was engaged in the laundry business here and at Omaha and was in charge of the Omaha plant at the time of his death. He was 43 years old and leaves a widow and one child. Mumford is in the real estate business here, and Myers and Lavalle are engaged in the saloon business.
