Kearney, NE Army Bomber Crash, Feb 1944
MECHANICVILLE FLYER KILLED.
Kearney, Neb. (AP) -- A youthful Mechanicville native, Sergt. GEORGE H. SATTERLEE, was one of six crew members killed in the crash of their Army bomber at an Army Air Base at Kearney, Neb., yesterday.
Two men were seriously injured and two others escaped injury in the crackup of the four-engined plane which caused the death of Sergeant SATTERLEE, son of George H. Satterlee of R.D. 2, Mechanicville.
The plane, according to the public relations officer at the base, was apparently taking off when it crashed at the end of the field.
Sergeant SATTERLEE was graduated from the Flexible Gunnery School at Fort Meyers, Fla., in November. Prior to his enlistment in the Air Force, he was employed by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co., Mechanicville.
