SPRINGDALE SCENE OF SERIOUS FLOOD

BRIDGES WEAKENED BY HIGH WATER

Livingston, June 22.- (AP) – Two sudden, heavy cloudbursts washed out considerable track on the Northern Pacific railroad’s main line at Springdale, 20 miles east of here this afternoon, weakening a number of bridges and causing unestimated [sic] other damages.

An eastbound passenger train was stranded at Springdale by the floods, although it was expected to be able to proceed before midnight. Most damage, Springdale residents reported, occurred behind the train. A bridge below the town was reported weakened by the rushing waters.

Mrs. Weaver Bebby and six small children escaped drowning at Springdale, when a wall of water rushing down a gully swept away their home. The house was lodged against the main line tracks of the Northern Pacific and a nearby engine crew pulled the family to safety.
