A BOILER EXPLOSION IN A SAW MILL.

Weston, Mo., Oct. 10. -- Yesterday afternoon the citizens of this quiet little city were thrown into a state of great excitement by the explosion of the boiler at JACQUEMIN & SHENKNER'S saw mill. At about 2:30 a report resembling that of an earthquake was distinctly heard. The building being frame everything was scattered pell mell.
CHARLES LACKENBY, the sawyer, was taken from the rubbish in a horribly mangled state, from the effects of which he died last evening at 6 o'clock. JACOB BENTZ, the engineer, was alsdo taken out in an unconscious state. His wounds are very serious, but has prospects of recovery if proper care and attention be given him.
The other hands of the mill were more or less injured; JOEL SIMMONS receiving a large cut on the hand, and CHARLES CANFIELD slight injuries on the head.
The cause of the explosion was a defective flue in the boiler. The loss to JACQUEMIN & SHENKER is estimated at $600.
The loss of the furniture company by falling of their smoke stack, caused by a flying slab, $150.
It is a very sad affair. LACKENBY leaves a wife and five small children. He will be buried to-morrow at 4 p.m.
