The Fog This Morning Hid an Electric
Park Car From View on East Fifth Street

While on her way to attend mass at the Holy Rosary church, Missouri avenue and Campbell streets, about 8 o'clock this morning, Mrs. Katherine BURKE, 76 years old, who lived with her son, Joseph BURKE, a farmer about twelve miles south of Kansas City, Kas., was struck by an east bound Electric park car at Fifth and Campbell streets. She received injuries which resulted in her death three hours later.

Mrs. Burke's right leg was broken in three places, her left leg broken twice and she received bruises about the body and head.

The car which struck Mrs. Burke was equipped with an old style fender. She was removed in the police ambulance to St. Joseph's hospital, where she died.

Mrs. Burke came here from her home in the country to visit the family of Thomas KEANE at 412 Campbell street. There was a heavy fog of mist and smoke in the north part of the city this morning and it screened the street car from Mrs. Burke's view. She was crossing the tracks when the car came suddenly out of the fog. It struck her before she realized her danger. Spectators said that the wheels of the car did not strike the woman. Her body passed under the fender and the motorman stopped the car. She was unconscious when taken from beneath the car, but regained consciousness before reaching the hospital. She realized that she was mortally injured and prayed while a surgeon was caring for her.

Mrs. Burke's Body Sent to Shawnee, Kas.

The body of Mrs. Katherine BURKE, an aged woman who was struck by a street car yesterday morning at Fifth and Campbell streets, and died later at St. Joseph's hospital, was sent yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, from O'Donnell's undertaking rooms to her home near Shawnee, Kas.
