PASSENGER TRAIN WRECKED AT BRUSH CREEK; 20 DROWNED.

CLOUDBURST WASHED AWAY TRESTLE AND ENGINEER DID NOT SEE IT IN TIME.

Baggage and Chair Cars, with Engine, Plunged to Bottom of Creek -- Passengers Escape Thru Window; Swim Ashore.

Springfield, Spet. 15 -- The Frisco-Texas Limited leaving St. Louis at 8:30 o'clock, was wrecked at Brush Creek near Lebanon at 3:30 this morning. A cloudburst washed out a trestle and much of the track, and the engineer did not see the danger until it was too late. The engine, baggage car and chair cars plunged into the swollen stream. Unofficial reports state twenty people were drowned, including the fireman, STOCKSTILL. Sixty-eight persons were in the chair car which is now in the bottom of the creek. Many broke through the windows and swam ashore.
Relief trains have been rushed to the scene. The wires are all down and the number of dead has not been confirmed.
Some reports say forty were drowned.
The Frisco reports twenty-six bodies had been recovered at noon and were taken to Lebanon. Thirteen who were injured, are receiving treatment. All trains are running slowly on account of washouts. The Pullmans of the ill-fated train remained on the track with many imigrants in the chair car.
A new dispatch says between 35 and 46 were drowned.
