OZARK WOODS ON FIRE.

Much Damage Reported From Polk County Forest Blazes.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., March 22.—Forest fires, driven by the high winds of last night, resulted in much damage to property in Polk County in the vicinity of Fairplay, and caused the loss of one life.

Fred Simmons, a farmer near Fairplay, was awakened in the night to find that fire from nearby forests had ignited his barn. In an effort to remove live stock from the blazing structure he received burns from which he died this morning.

Wind through this section reached a velocity of forty-eight miles an hour at one time last night.
