DeSoto, MO Train Wreck, Jan 1892

IRON MOUNTAIN WRECK.

Two Cars of a Fast Train Derailed and Five Passengers Injured.

DE SOTO, Mo., Jan. 22. -- The north bound Texas express train on the Iron Mountain road, due in St. Louis at 7 o'clock this morning, was wrecked one mile south of this place early this morning. The wreck was caused by a broken rail. The ladies' coach left the rails and the sleeping car was thrown several feet from the track and turned over on its side, slightly injuring two passengers and three trainmen. The injured were:
F. R. NICHOLS of Greeley, Col., left side bruised and left hand badly cut by window pane.

W. McGREGOR of Flint, Mich., badly bruised and cut about the head and face. He is now at the Commercial hotel here under a physician's care.
T. H. HADEN, train-master, slightly injured.

Sleeping Car Conductor LETHERBURY, bruised and hurt about the side and hips.

Pullman Porter CALVIN, shoulder bruised and other slight injuries.
But for the prompt work of the train crew in bringing the train to a stop the results would have been far more serious.
