Wiggins, MS Entire Business Section Fire, Jan 1910

TOWN OF WIGGINS HAD DISASTROUS FIRE TODAY.

GASOLINE EXPLOSION STARTS FIRE IN DEPOT WHICH SWEEPS THE ENTIRE BUSINESS SECTION.

Special Telephone Message to Laurel Chronicle:
Practically the entire business section, including the depot, of the town of Wiggins was destroyed by fire today about the hour of noon.
The fire began with an explosion of gasoline in the G. & S. I. depot and under the high winds which prevailed during the day it was impossible to control it. The loss will reach high up into the thousands. The FINKBINE Lumber Company, Wiggins' principal industry, received no injury.
Wiggins is situated on the Gulf & Ship Island Railroad about half way between Gulfport and Hattiesburg, and was the principal town between those two points.
