BUSINESS BLOCK IS DESTROYED BY FIRE; BIG LOSS.
DAMAGE AT CORINTH, MISS., ESTIMATED AT MORE THAN $1,500,000.
Corinth, Miss., Dec. 28. -- An entire business block here was destroyed by fire today. Early estimates of the damage placed it at approximately $1,500,000.
More than 30 stores were destroyed by the fire which threatened for a time to wipe out the entire business district. After a fight of more than six hours in bitter cold weather the fire department succeeded in confining the blaze to the single block.
Among the buildings destroyed were the post office, a jewelry store, the opera house, the Corinth Bank and Trust Co., a merchandise store and the Ford museum.
The fire, which was discovered early today was believed to have started from an old heater in a cafeteria.
