FLORIST NEARLY DROWNS IN THE RED RIVER

(News Tribune Special)

CROOKSTON, Minn., March 21.---J. F. Helter, proprietor of the Queen City greenhouse, had a narrow escape from drowning in the Red Lake river. He was crossing on the ice on his way home, when it broke under him. He was thrown into the water and the swift current took him off his feet. He finally secured hold of a jutting piece of ice and was able to pull himself out of the current, eventually reaching the shore. The spot where the accident happened was not far from the place where a young girl disappeared a few years ago and no trace of her has been found to the present time.
