Mankato, MN Commercial College Fire, Dec 1915
BIG FIRE IN WEST MANKATO.
THREE STORY STRUCTURE OF LANDKAMER & HELMAN TOTALLY DESTROYED AT FOUR O'CLOCK FRIDAY MORNING.
MANKATO COMMERCIAL COLLEGE IS DESTROYED.
UNIQUE THEATRE AND STOCK OF NEW YORK STORE OCCUPING FIRST FLOOR GOES UP IN SMOKE.
At four o'clock Friday morning fire was discovered in the big new three story building owned by LANDKAMER & HOLMAN at Mankato and before the flames were under control the entire structure was a total loss.
The first floor was occupied by the Unique Theatre and the three sectional stores by the New York 5 and 10 cents store. The second and third floor was the home of the Mankato Commercial college.
At one time the whole block seemed to be doomed but the wind shifted slightly carrying the flames back and away from adjoining buildings. The big Saulpaugh hotel to the north of the fire was badly damaged by the heat. The fire loss is said to be the heaviest occurring in Mankato for many years.
