Melby, MN Train Wreck, Sept 1895 - Two Trains Collide

TWO TRAINS COLLIDE

Five Killed and a Number Injured at Melby, Minn.

St. Cloud, Minn., Sept. 12--Passenger trains Nos. 2 and 3 on the Great Northern have had a headend collision at Melby. Both were running at a high rate of speed and came together with terrific force.

The dead are:
J. K. EMERSON, St Paul, engineer train No. 2;
JAMES S THIEBODO, St. Paul, fireman Train No. 2;
W. H. KERSHAW, St. Paul, express messenger train No. 2;
E. T. JOHNSON, St. Paul, Mail clerk train No. 2; and
IRA S. HAINES, St. Paul, engineer train No. 3.

The injured are:
Fred Buigoine, St. Paul, brakeman, arm broken and leg scalded; D. Betsner, Minneapolis, express messenger, leg broken and eye injured; George William, St. Paul, mail clerk, seriously injured internally; J. O. Rosenquist, Atwater, mail clerk, injured in back not seriously; Wesley C. Robert, brakeman, left hand hurt; Miss Margaret Allison, Mason, Wis., passenger, badly cut and bruised over entire body and her back injured; F. M. Curtis, Mason, Wis., passenger, arm, leg, and face injured; Maurice O’Connor, St. Paul, mail clerk, head and limbs injured; Chris Baglow, Fergus Falls, passenger, internally injured and limbs hurt; W. H. Mohr, San Francisco, head and hands injured; Steve Martin, Streator, Ills., head and limbs cut; Mrs. John Russell, Duluth, badly jarred and shocked, and Mrs. Russell had her four small children with her.
