Chisholm, MN Fire, Sept 1908 - 558 New Buildings
558 Buildings Since Big Fire
Nearly As Many Structures Erected At Chisholm as Were Destroyed By The Blaze.
(Range Bureau of the News Tribune)
Chisholm, Nov. 30.-A count just completed shows that there have been erected 558 buildings since the big fire here in September, which is almost the number destroyed. New buildings are being started nearly every day. While some of the first following the fire were hastily constructed, most of the dwellings are substantial and as a whole they are better than a majority of those burned.
It is in the business section that the greatest improvement is noticeable. Upwards of 100 blocks, mostly of brick and stone, hansomer [sic] and more substantial than those wiped out a few months ago, are going up. Some of them are completed and most of them will be ready by the beginning of the new year. Local business men predict that within a year after the fire Chisholm will be larger and more substantial and attractive than ever.

Chisholm People Move Into New Buildings
(Range Bureau of the News Tribune.)
Chisholm, Feb. 10.-J. LEWIS and family are moving today from the shack in which they have been living since the fire, to a pleasant and convenient cottage, between Fourth and Fifth avenues on Chestnut Street. Mr. LEWIS is one of Chisholm’s prosperous dry goods merchants, who, since the fire, has put up a fine brick building on Lake Street and now, like many others of Chisholm’s business men, is beginning over again on the ashes of his former possessions. His new store is just across the street from the one that was burned.
Messrs. HAYES and CASEY, druggists, who have been doing business since the fire in a temporary shack off Lake Street on Third Avenue, moved their stock of goods and fixtures today into the HAYES block on Lake Street. This new drugstore building is built of brick and is two stories high. The HAYES family will make their home on the second floor. It will require most of this week to put everything into shape in the new store, but when all is done, Chisholm will have a thoroughly up-to-date drug store again. Messrs. HAYES and CASEY were heavy losers in the Chisholm fire of September last.
A.J. ABBEY, who has been station agent for the Great Northern in Chisholm for four years past, had given up his position with the railroad company to become agent for the Great Northern Express Company. The express company’s offices to be removed from the depot to the up-town building lately vacated by HAYES and CASEY druggist. Mr. ABBEY will be doing business in his new office in a week’s time. C.O. FANS, lately from Spokane, Wash., is at present the acting station agent. It is likely that Mr. FANS will hold the position permanently.

Chisholm Has Rapid Growth since Fire
(Range Bureau of the News Tribune.)
Chisholm, May 20.-Much building is being done here on Lake Street, where all blocks must be constructed of brick. HERMAN TETZLOFF has started excavating for a brick building 50x75 two stories. The Miners’ State Bank has decided to erect a two story brick 25x110 on their lot which is located on the south corner of Lake Street and Third Avenue. G. BEHR has let the contract for a two story brick which will be located on First and Second avenues and Lake Street. JOHN KUZMA’S building is rapidly nearing completion and will be two stories, 25x80 feet. W.C. BARRETT of Hibbing, has let the contract for a building 25x100 feet. Besides these handsome brick blocks many handsome residence houses are to be seen springing up in every direction. There are at least 150 more buildings here now than there were before the disastrous fire of September 5, 1908.
