HAIL STORM IN WILSON TWP, ALPENA
I write a family newsletter for the Herron Family, which was started in Wilson Twp., and was really interested in this article. I will include it in my next newsletter for all the old and current Wilson twp members of this family. Thanks for posting it!
James Fingleton
Hello,
Thank you for posting! James Fingleton was my great great great grandfather. I have a copy of his death record and obituary, along with a more detailed article from the Alpena News that confirm that he did indeed die from the lightning strike. Please let me know if you would like them.
There was also a longtime resident of Wilson (who I believe is an ancestor of Myra?) named Evelyn Cochrane Mains who mentions that her mother and siblings spent their days at the Fingleton place, and that "the house was supposed to be jinxed because several years earlier, Mr. Fingleton had been killed by lightning that came down the chimney. The story was that lightning might strike in the same place twice."
