Four Killed by Train Today.

Flint, Mich., June 14.- While MAJOR GEORGE W. BUCKINGHAM, his daughter ANNA, MRS. THOMAS APPLEGATE and her sister, MRS. GENERAL HUMPHREY, of Adrian, were out driving this morning they were struck by a Pere Marquette passenger train. All four were instantly killed. The body of Buckingham was hurled 75 feet and the remains of two ladies were found on the pilot of the engine. The close proximity of the factory buildings at the crossing prevented a clear view of the tracks and the party drove directly in front of the train moving at the rate of 30 miles an hour.

Engineer Joseph Wiggins says the first he saw was the form of the man flying through the air. The bodies were horribly mangled.

DROVE ON RAILWAY TRACK

JUST IN FRONT OF A RAPIDLY MOVING EXPRESS.

VICTIMS TERRIBLY MANGLED

ALL THE DEAD WERE PERSONS OF PROMINENCE.

Flint, Mich., June 14.-The Pere Marquette passenger train due here at 9 o’clock today struck a double carriage at the Hamilton avenuecrossing [sic] in the suburb of Oak Park and instantly killed four well known people.

The dead:
MAJOR GEORGE W. BUCKINGHAM, Flint
MISS ABBIE BUCKINGHAM, Flint.
MRS. THOMAS APPLEGATE, Adrian.
MRS. WM. HUMPHREY, Adrian.

Several factory buildings adjoin the track at Hamilton avenue and prevent a clear view of the track.
MAJOR BUCKINGHAM drove directly in front of the train, which was traveling at high speed. The pilot of the engine was broken by the force of the collision and bodies of two of the ladies, terribly mangled, were found on it.
Engineer Wiggins says he had sounded the whistle for the crossing and the first he knew of the carriage was when his engine struck it.

MRS. APPLEGATE and MRS. HUMPHREY had been guests of MAJOR BUCKINGHAM during the state G. A. R. encampment which ended last night.
