FOUR KILLED IN BUS SMASH NEAR MONROE.

COACH PLOWS INTO STALLED TRUCK; SEVERAL BADLY INJURED.

(By Associated Press)
Monroe, May 13 -- Four persons were killed, one fatally injured, four hurt seriously and 12 others slightly injured yesterday in the wreck of a bus bound from Cleveland to Detroit. The bus overturned after striking a parked truck five miles south of here.
The dead are:
FRANK CINDERLES, 21, of Trenton, Mich.
H. WESTERMAN, 40, of Chicago.
MRS. EMMA MAURETTUS, 66, of Los Angeles.
An Unidentified Man about 42 years old.
An Unidentified Girl about 16.
Seriously injured were:
THOMAS CHATMAN, 43, Detroit.
ANTHONY LADASHER, 22, Detroit.
CYRUS ROACH, 29, Greentree, Pa.
LYNN DORNSHULD, 9, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Among the less seriously injured were MRS. CHESTER WIRTH, 24, Saginaw, Mich., and her daughter, BEVERLY JEAN, 2.
The truck, loaded with tires and bound from Akron to Detroit, developed motor trouble and the driver had parked on the highway. He told officials here that he was in the cab at the time of the crash, trying to start the motor.

Bus Hits Trailer.
The bus hit the trailer, striking with such force that the bus was overturned and the truck and trailer were buckled and splintered. The bus driver said the truck did not have proper lights. The truck driver declared that when he left Toledo his lights were in good order.
The driver of the bus said that because of the glare of lights of an approaching car he did not see the truck until within 10 feet of it. He estimated the speed of his bus at 40 miles an hour. Most of the passengers were asleep when the crash occurred, the driver said.
MANFORD BURLEIGH, division manager of the bus line, said it was his opinion the driver was not at fault.
An inquest was to be made today.
