Still River, MA Train Wreck, Aug 1907
Bad Wreck on Portland Division.
One of the worst wrecks which the Boston & Maine railroad has had to contend with for some time occurred on the Worcester, Nashua & Portland division near Still River, Sunday evening about 8:30 o'clock, when a broken rail caused a fast freight to leave the rails and plough its nose into an embankment, piling up the locomotive and 15 loaded freight cars in a mass of tangled debris which it took a wreck train and crew from Worcester all night and the larger part of today to clear up. No one was injured, but the damage to rolling stock was very nearly 24 hours. The Bar Harbor express and other night trains got by the wreck by leaving the W. N. & P. division at Ayer and running to this city, connecting with the Portland division again at Sterling Junction via the New York, New Haven & Hartford from this city.
