FIREMAN RESCUED FROM BURNING BOAT
Fireboat Captain Clings to Hose Line, Is Dragged to Safety.
BOSTON, June 2--(By Associated Press) Captain John Williams of one of the harbor fireboats narrowly escaped death early today when he fell into a mass of fertilizer in the hold of the burning four masted schooner Bessie M. Dustin, anchored off Spectacle island. He seized a hose line and held on until other firemen dragged him from the material in which he was sinking.
Because all the fireboats were engaged in fighting the fire on the floating hospital the crew of the Dustin battled the flames unaided for some time. Later hose lines were run from a plant on the island and finally a fireboat arrived. The flames were finally subdued, but the vessel, heavily laden with tons of water poured into her hold settled into the mud.
