Springfield, MA Drowning, May 1937

Discovered in Half Moon Pond Near Jone’s Point—May have Fallen in by Accident.

Holyoke, May 22.—The body of James Presdiville, missing from his home, 127 Chestnut street since Monday, was found about noon in the “Half-moon pond” near Jone’s point by Benjamin Terceiro of 94 Lyman street, who saw a man’s head sticking out of the pond where two boys were fishing and had one of them run down toward and telephone the police. The boys were Samuel Ripa of 403 Maple street and John Stefanik of 35 Bond street.

Marshal James Bartley, Inspector James Malcom and Sergt John J. Moriarty, went up with the police wagon and the body was taken ashore, where it was later viewed by Associate Medical Examiner Stanley Cox. The sides of the bank are steep and it may be that while out walking he slipped and fell in. He had been afflicted with insomnia and frequently took long walks at night. The pond, while small, is very deep. The body was removed to Hebert’s funeral parlors.

Mr. Prendiville had been employed by his brother, Edward at the Windsor lunchrooms. He also leaves two sisters, Emma and Marla, both of Holyoke.
