COAST GUARD PLANE CRASHES OFF COAST.
BODY OF RADIO OPERATOR IS RECOVERED -- SEEK BODIES OF TWO OTHERS.
New York, April 17. (INS) -- With the body of the radio operator recovered, the navy today intensified their search for the other two members of a United States coast guard amphibian plane which crashed into the sea in the vicinity of Gay Head, Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
The body of RM1 WILLIAM A. BOUTILLIER, 28 year old radio man, first class, of Walla Walla, Wash., was discovered washed up on the beach at Lobsterville, near Gay Head. A life belt was around his waist.
The pilot Lt. ROBERT JAMES LAFFERTY, 28, Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y., and STEVEN JOHN TARAPCHAK, 37, Brooklyn, aviation machinist mate, first class, are missing and feared dead.
The navy announced that one wheel and one pontoon of the plane, which operated out of the Brooklyn, N.Y., coast guard air station, were also washed ashore on the Lobsterville beach. No other wreckage was discovered.
