FIERY ELEMENT REIGNS SUPREME FOR HOURS.

DEAL BROTHERS FLOUR MILLS GO UP IN SMOKE AND FLAME.

MULLEN BUILDING AND DEAL APARTMENT HOUSE WRECKED -- FURNITURE HASTILY REMOVED TO SIDEWALKS -- FIRE PRESSURE DEFICIENT FOR A TIME -- LOSS SUPPOSED TO BE $125,000 -- PARTLY COVERED BY INSURANCE.

Cumberland was visited by a most destructive fire last night, entailing a total loss of about one hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars.
The fire started in the immense three story building of the DEAL Bros. milling plant, located at the corner of Front and Glenn streets. An alarm was sent in from Box 53 at 9:45 o'clock. The fire when first noticed was shooting out through a window on the third floor and while the fire companies responded promptly it was seen from the start that the building was doomed, as there was a large quantity of inflammable material on the second and third floors of the milling plant, but it was hoped that the flames could be prevented from spreading to the DEAL Brothers residence flat on Glenn street, the latter building practically adjoining that of the milling plant, and also to other buldings in proximity to the fire on Front street.
Owing to low water pressure for the first hour of the fire, due to the fact that the new pump at the water works could not be put to work until about 10:30 o'clock for the reason that the pump was being painted, and the flames soon spread to the adjoining buildings, completely gutting DEAL Brothers milling plant, DEAL Brothers flat, practically destroying a building on Front street, owned by HARRY T. MULLIN.
