DREADFUL STEAMBOAT ACCIDENT: SEVEN PERSONS SCALDED.
We copy the following from the Baltimore Clipper of Monday:
The small steamer OREGON, which has been running on Sundays to the Fish House and Patapsco Gardens, blew up last evening, scalding seven persons. She was about starting on her return trip, when the stern end of the boiler blew out, partially clearing the deck, and scalded seven persons, two of whom were children. Some three or four are not expected to recover. Several persons were knocked into the river, and others sprang overboard, and but for the fact of the boat being at the landing, the loss of life would have been dreadful.
We learn that the steam had been collected whilst the boat lay at the landing, ready for a starting, and that the fact of the boiler being nearly worn out, caused the dreadful occurrence.
