Cumberland, MD Caught in Flywheel, Jul 1904
EDITOR CAUGHT IN FLYWHEEL.
Had Been Working to Publish Paper During Printers' Strike—He May Die.
Special to The New York Times.
CUMBERLAND, Md., July 12.—Col. John W. Avlrett, a prominent Democratic politician, State Game Warden, and editor of The Evening Times, was probably fatally injured this evening by being caught in a flywheel at his office.
He had been working incessantly since the printers' strike here to get his paper out. His coat was fanned into the fly wheel, and he was wound around a shaft. Attaches of the business office stopped the machinery.
It is believed he sustained a concussion of the brain. His arm was fractured, and his breast badly lacerated.
The New York Times, New York, NY 13 Jul 1904
