Rescues at the Templeton Hotel

AERIAL LADDERS USED IN MAINE HOTEL RESCUES.

Waterville, Maine (AP) -- The Templeton Hotel and an adjoining block were swept by fire early today that made necessary aerial ladder rescues and filled the Templeton street area with dense smoke.
Firemen took two hotel guests from upper windows of the three-story wooden hotel. Several other guests fled by fire escape and through the smoky lobby.
JIBRYNE KARTER, owner of the Templeton, estimated a total of $175,000 loss on the recently renovated hotel and an adjacent business and apartment building. KARTER said the hotel loss alone would reach $80,000.
