Burnham, ME House Fire, Feb 1907

Burnham, Me., Aug. 16---(Special).---At about 7 o'clock this evening the house belonging to Mrs. Eliza Morgan and situated on the east side of the Sebasticook river near the Belfast branch of the Maine Central Railroad was totally destroyed by fire, and an imbecile son, FRANK, aged about 35 years perished in the flames.

It appears that during the afternoon Mrs. Morgan had been ironing clothes and in the evening went to another part of the town with her daughter Edith to deliver them. It was while she was absent from the house that it caught fire in some way, with the result above started. It is impossible to tell how the fire originated.

As soon as the cry of fire was heard a large number of the citizens turned out ready to do what they could but they had no sooner arrived on the scene than the house, which was a small story and a half affair, was in flames. Those who were near the fire state that they could see the body of the imbecile son being consumed by the flames, but it was impossible to rescue him.
