SIX ARE KILLED IN EXPLOSION IN LOUISIANA MINE.
WORKMAN LIGHTS CIGARETTE AND IGNITES GASOLINE AND CREOSOTE.
New Orleans, La., April 16. -- (United Press) -- Six men were killed in a gasoline explosion late yesterday at the bottom of a salt mine near New Iberia, La. While painting steel casing 90 feet below the surface a mixture of gasoline and creosote used by the workmen was ignited when one of the men lit a cigarette. The mine, recently purchased by Bayliss & Jones of Michigan, is located on the estate of the late Joseph Jefferson, the actor.
