New Orleans, LA Air Force Plane Crash, Sep 1948
SIX DIE IN PLANE CRASH SUNDAY.
New Orleans, Sept. 13 -- (UP) -- The bodies of six men killed yesterday when an Air Force twin-engine plane crashed and burned near New Orelans today were identified.
Officials at Ellington Field, near Houston, Tex., named the victims as:
Capt. W. L. PAGE.
Capt. S. F. LAMBERT.
Lt. R. ALSUP, JR.
Lt. G. E. LAWLER, all Army Reserve fliers.
Also:
W. K. CHAPMAN.
W. T. FERAY, both Civil Air Patrol Cadets. All were from Houston.
The plane, property of the first Air Force Training Center, crashed about 3:45 p.m. yesterday after its motor conked out during a routine flight from Ellington Field.
An attempt was made to land but the plane crashed and burned as it made a turn on the remaining engine at about 800 feet.
