TWENTY-EIGHT ARE KILLED AND SCORE INJURED BY STORM.

TORNADO SWEEPS PART OF TWO STATES, CAUSING PROPERTY LOSS OF $2,000,000.

New Orleans, March 17. -- Twenty-eight dead and several score injured was the toll taken by Sunday's tornado which swept parts of Mississippi and Louisiana, according to reports from various sections of the two States reaching here tonight. Twenty-four persons were killed in Mississippi, four of them white. The path of the tornado included Delhi and Rayville, La.; Issaquena, Sharkey, Washington, Humphreys and Sunflower Counties, in Mississippi.
Property damage is estimated at more than $2,000,000.

Vicksburg, Miss., March 17. -- The loss of life as a result of yesterday's tornadoes in the vicinity of Grace and Isola, Miss., was increased by twelve by the death here today of E. P. GREEN, plantation manager who was injured when his home near Grace collapsed. J. W. JOHNSTON, plantation manager, was killed at Pantherburn, near Grace. Eight negroes lost their lives in the same vicinity and two persons were killed near Isola.

Vicksburg, Miss., March 17. -- Searchers today continued their efforts to locate bodies of victims of the tornado which yesterday swept over a course southwest to northeast from a point two miles south of Grace, fifty-five miles north of Vicksburg, northeast to Pantherburn, a distance of eight miles. The bodies of J. W. JOHNSTON, wealthy Pantherburn planter, and eight negroes, already have been found.
The greater part of the loss, which it was estimated would exceed $1,000,000, was caused by destruction of valuable standing cypress and gum timber.
Two white persons, the wife and daughter of a plantation manager named HERRON, were reported killed when the storm struck the plantation near Isola, Miss. A number of negro tenant houses were blown down, and it is feared additional fatalities resulted.
