Blackford, KY Tornado, Mar 1890
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 31. - Most discouraging reports of Thursday's cyclone comes from Webster and Union counties in Kentucky.
Within a range of three miles of Blackford, in the same county, naught can be seen but destruction. The town itself was all but wiped from the face of the earth. The houses in the village were carried away, and the forest trees around were felled to the ground as though cut down by a scythe. The most appalling loss followed in the wake of the storm at this place.
Twenty-one lives are known to have been lost in the locality, and four times as many injured. Among those dead are the following: Mrs. James Franklin. Mrs. James Mitchell and two children. Mrs. William Taylor. William Hooper and two children. Charles Hancock and one child. Henry Sandefur, wife and three children, blown into Green river with their house and drowned.
