--------
Steamboat Burned.----The steamboat Scioto, lying above the mouth of the canal at Shippingsport, was burned last night about 12 o'clock. The fire was no doubt the work of an incendiary, as she was cut from her moorings and left to drift down the river. The watchman aboard was asleep and came near losing his life, and would, no doubt, have perished had not some one gone to his rescue. The boat drifted down to the lower end of the island, and her hull is lying upon the rocks. We understand that an attempt had been made during the day to fire the Scioto, but was detected. She was an old boat and of little value.
The New Albany Daily Ledger, New Albany, IN 2 Jun 1860
