Calvary, KY Bridge Collapses Under Railroad Train, June 1900

FATAL RAILROAD WRECK.

BRIDGE COLLAPSES ON LOUISVILLE AND NASHVILLE -- TWO MEN KILLED.

Lebanon, Ky., June 19. -- Train No. 79, leaving here at 2 P. M. over a branch of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, running to Greensburg, near Calvary, met with a terrible accident this afternoon. A bridge over Rolling Fork collapsed and the engine, baggage, express car, and a combination coach fell twenty-five feet into the river. The day coach remained standing on the rock pier.
JAMES HOUSTON of Pine Hill and GEORGE MULLINS of Mount Vernon were instantly killed. JOHN NEWLAND, WILLIAM ADAMS, WASH CABEL, and ARCHIBALD BROWN, bridgemen; CHARLES ANDES of Altamont, L. W. HAGAN, baggage master of Greensburg, C. HOBSON, a brakeman; EDWARD SMITH, engineer; H. H. MARTIN, GLEN SPALDING, a passenger, of Lebanon, Ky., and PROF. C. K. CRAWFORD of Danville were injured.
