$15,000 Fire Sweeps Blast Furnace At Middlesboro

MIDDLESBORO, Ky., May 12.—Fire damaged the plant of the local blast furnace of the Virginia Iron, Coal and Coke Company last night to the extent of $15,000. Practically all the woodwork of the furnace was destroyed necessitating closing for several days. As soon as repairs can be made the furnace will be blown in again.

It is not known exactly hoe the fire originated. The loss is covered by insurance.

Closing the furnace throws over 100 men out of work temporarily. The company has several other blast furnaces at different points, with headquarters at Roanoke, Va.
